New Nuclear: strengthening the sector’s appeal to investors

Second edition of our white paper on SMRs, AMRs and fusion: why the nuclear sector is shifting from bespoke megaprojects to standardised products, and why private capital is becoming its new engine.

Nuclear is changing shape. Large, one-off projects carried by states are giving way to standardised, modular products: small modular reactors (SMRs), advanced modular reactors (AMRs) and, further out, fusion. Lower costs, faster deployment and stronger safety by design make them a credible answer to two pressures at once, the climate emergency and Europe’s need for energy sovereignty.

This second edition of our white paper, written by Giuseppe J. Sangiovanni, looks at the other half of the equation: financing. Startups and private investors are taking over a role long held by governments, from venture capital at the earliest stages to infrastructure funds once projects are ready to scale.

Europe already concentrates many of the fourth-generation concepts. Helping them become global champions is precisely Exergon’s investment thesis.

The white paper is in French. It was first published on the Audacia website.
